Ready for Halloween yet?
I'm rural so the few kids that live around here simply go into town for their sugar fix.
Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
I usually get a fair amount of kids where I live now. We got none when I lived in WA because the house was so isolated. The house sat on 12 acres and although it was located relatively close to the road people tended to avoid the house as it had a reputation for being haunted.
But no matter, I'm ready for the second of our most important Sabbats, Samhain. And like always, I will be out with the coven poisoning wells and taking my turn at kissing the devils anus...

I didn't realize you guys had that large of a property in WA. Ya, wouldn't expect many kids there either then. I bet no street lights either. There aren't any here.

The house I have now has the smallest piece of property I've ever lived on. I grew up in a house that sat on 5 acres.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 12th, 2021, 7:31 pm I didn't realize you guys had that large of a property in WA. Ya, wouldn't expect many kids there either then. The house in WA was an old farm house. It had been abandoned for decades and it was bank owned when my husband bought it without even consulting me... I won't get into that bone of contention or the circumstances surrounding it.
It sat on what was left of an old dairy farm. The previous owners had sold off most of the acreage which had been turned into green space. Consequently the nearest neighbor was miles away.
The house was a creepy old wreck with an awful history and it took us 4 years and thousands of dollars down the rat hole just to make it liveable. It was still a work in progress when I left in 2015. If I had my way, I would've paid some professionals to torch the horrible thing.

Nothing here, just going to ignore it all, and hope nobody comes around.
Anyway my little niece already robbed me of my candy stash, so I have nothing anyhow I can give.

When i lived out that way...I actually got trick-or-treaters! Mostly only 15 kids tops. Their parents would drive them house to house...we decorated...lights and creepy sounds...red blinking eyes in the trees...cobwebs..all that...I would make bags stuffed with a bunch of full size candy and other Halloween fun just to make it worthwhile...I wasn't cheap about it.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 12th, 2021, 4:29 am I'm rural so the few kids that live around here simply go into town for their sugar fix.

Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
My road isn't really geared for halloween though. It's a dead end road, so really no traffic in the first place. Combined with no street lighting, long unlit driveways, dogs that will bark at anything that moves, and larger properties (some gated), it's just not a great area for kids to do their thing house to house! Driving the kids house to house sort of defeats the experience I would think... People are just better off driving their kids into Nelson or Castlegar to knock on some doors!Berry Sweet wrote: ↑October 14th, 2021, 10:10 pm When i lived out that way...I actually got trick-or-treaters! Ya, the last gasp of a decade (1989), where any forms of 'progressive wokeness' in even fictional movies could still be generally avoided should the director/producer decide so. Simpler times!
Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
Better times.... Everyone today is so full of anger and intolerence. Everyone is too willing to harm other people simply for having a different pov. I'm guilty of it myself but I will be damned if I let these ignorant, vile, SJWs run roughshod over society.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 15th, 2021, 4:16 amYa, the last gasp of a decade (1989), where any forms of 'progressive wokeness' in even fictional movies could still be generally avoided should the director/producer decide so. Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
^^^ Makes me wonder if there's some weird connection. East Germany dissolved in 1990. Soviet Union in 1991. It wasn't too long after that I had started noticing some changes, although subtle at the time. Subtle changes in schooling (was in High School at that point), subtle changes in almost all media forms... Maybe just a coincidence.

Yeah, I noticed also, all the socialist freaks came out of their hiding spots, especially in academia, and the media.

Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
It almost seems that way. Growing up in the 1980's, the biggest political statement I can remember from any family member or friend, was my 12 year old cousin wearing a "No Nukes" T-shirt a couple of times. I don't even think she knew what nukes were, or what mutually assured destruction is. Just a fad basically, that nobody really cared about.Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 1:27 am Yeah, I noticed also, all the socialist freaks came out of their hiding spots, especially in academia, and the media.
Things were much simpler back then! If you wanted to wear a No Nukes T-shirt, nobody gave a shit. It was still life as usual for most... If you leaned to the right a bit? Wasn't a problem, since people didn't give a shit about that either...
Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
That's when it started... I was in college in the early 90s and Academia was becoming less classically liberal and more loony progressive. By the turn of the century is was leaking down into public schools. Now the progressive scum and far left wackos are in full control of education in this country. Teachers are clueless and the progs controlling the unions tell them to shit, where, when, how much and what color.Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 1:27 am Yeah, I noticed also, all the socialist freaks came out of their hiding spots, especially in academia, and the media.
That is the core problem. You now have two whole generations infected with progressive ideological cancer. These people are going to be controlling the future. We are now seeing the damage because the government knows exactly how to manipulate these empty headed, prog imbeciles.

The no nukes thing was here in the 60s, and 70s a lot, nice thought, but stupid ideology knowing anyone can have them, and cheat.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 3:15 amIt almost seems that way. I rather have the big ones, and ways to send them over not having them.
That hippy stuff is something better left on Fantasy Island.
The thing is critical thinking isn't there for most the population now, commonsense is very uncommon.

I know, I have had to correct several of the kids the last few decades, and tell them better.Renee wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 10:53 amThat's when it started... Most see it when I point it out, but it's still there in the back of their minds what is drilled into them at schools.
It's like me, and my upbringing, I was propagandized into loving the flag, and my country, and looking back it was the right teaching.
I know the bad, but also know all the good.
The thing is the bad is there so we should learn better from it, not hate the country for it.
And speaking of the bad, most of that was done under Democrat leadership, and ideas.

Re: Ready for Halloween yet?
What's amazing to me is how fast things can change, and I'm not even that old. My younger self could never have predicted that a woman getting a tube dick sewn on made with skin grafts from her ass, and then calling herself a man, would ever even be a thing, much less normalized and celebrated. This is real Frankenstein territory now!
Whatever happened to people simply getting their freak on by dancing around in the privacy of their own living room wearing clothing from the opposite gender? Seemed like much simpler times!
