I know big changes can't happen overnight .
For instance:
Changing our energy usage away from non renewable resources or polluting resources will not be changed in a few years but will take decades .
I'd like to see UBC and other Universities work together to help get things moving along and have the government of Canada step up with the US to get things moving along in a joint effort to get Canada and US away from the energy system we use today Oil , Coal , Nuclear .
It's not always about Clean energy.
Nuclear energy might be a clean energy while the system is working within specs , but its not so clean when things go very wrong , and damages the environment for centuries.

Years ago in grade school , in science class we learned about the separation of hydrogen and oxygen from water by placing a couple plates in water attached to a battery. The teacher demonstrated that the resulting gas hydrogen would ignite . That stuck with me and I always wondered who or when someone would make use that and do something about it . The World population has doubled since I was born in the 1960's and will double again be for I'm dead . From what i read last we have about a 50-60 years supply of Oil ! Its not about us here and now , Its about what we leave for the future after we are gone. I would like to know that there will be Massive Parks with 1000 year old trees and water running in a stream that you can drink from and fish out of .
Again this brings up short term profits the logging industry a 1000 year old tree is worth more per square foot then several smaller trees .
Its more expensive to do a selective logging then clear cutting but there for cuts into the short term profits of the big companies .
I don't like it when the government goes behind closed doors to negotiate what best for the population without the populations input or to negotiate again for short term gains on selling out or leasing out natural resources , wood ,water, land ,energy ,mining,transportation ,health,ect.
The Unions are all about Jobs ,the corporations are all about Profits , The government plays both fields in a juggling act with the population ,all are about money.For the most part about short term profits . You can cut down all the trees and drill all the oil wells and mine all the minerals in your lifetime and provide your family with a roof over there heads and food on the table till the day you die knowing your they have taken care of your family the best you could . You could show your profits for your company has had a steady increase since the day you started till the day you retire . You can show that your government provided jobs and revenue till the next election .This to me is a short term outlook for the future of a Family Corporation or Government.
I'd like to look beyond the short term of things ,its not sustainable for the long term. 250 years isn't that far away .We can't continue to exploit resources for the short term profit . The world population is going to double be for I die , and thats less then 50 years from now. At the rate things are going we will be at WW3 fighting over Oil , Water . Land , and any other resource we need to survive in less then 100 years . Ive lived with that nightmare since I was a child having a fear in my gut and my nightmares that I would see Humanity kill itself off because of an addiction to greed , power , control instead of an understanding of long term balance of Jobs, profit , environment , population sustainability beyond the next millennium.
Maybe we need a World War to set things straight a decrease of the population of humanity to levels that would make us all start from scratch no resources except a couple sticks and some stones and hope to find clean water to drink fresh air to breath a shelter or the ability to get a fire going to stay warm or another living human being to talk to instead of fight against over a piece of food , or a scrap of cloth .
When I was young in Canadian schools I was taught we came across the ocean to a new land and found new peoples living in the Americas and that they showed us how to live here what was good to eat how to survive the winter . In my imagination I was thinking I would love to have learned to live off the land and hunt and live with the land with respect the environment and know that we are part of a living planet contributing in the cycle of nature .
What I learned as I grew up was quite the contrast to what I thought . Not only did we come to the Americas but sailed around the world in the search or new lands to conquer take for our selfs in the names of kings and Queens and god . We found savages and traded trinkets to them and to there waring tribes pitting them against each other by offering each more trade for there resources the land , the beaver the buffalo herds the pelts they gave for guns and alcohol so they would kill each other off making room for us to take over there land . To our surprise they also got sick from viruses we carried but we had developed an immunity too, thus decimating there numbers from the sicknesses we brought . They came to us for help and we forced the Indian out them, destroyed there history ,language,beliefs,religion and knowledge that they had and this was but a small part the evils we did . What we did was Genocide ! In order to take over the land and resources for our selfs .
I walk down the street and see the hate in there eyes toward me cause I'm white, and deservingly so, they are right to have that anger . Many time I've been told to get off there land. I hear the hate that runs so deep toward us white peoples, there own brothers and sisters mothers and fathers family and friends and them selfs .The First Nation peoples of the world have the right to be angry , I can only hope they can heal from the anger and be stronger against the odds that are against them . I would like to see the First Nations join in unison on a world wide scale North and South Americas, Australia and anywhere else we caused a genocide and Unite as a global force for each other to stand up in unity for each other as a World First Nations Organization . As the WTO , WHO , have become a world force the WFNO should have a say for there rights .
Perhaps the way the world is now and the future of the things yet to come was meant to be and we can't changed it even if we see it coming .And if thats the case I've seen the end and based my life choices and chosen not to have a family and friends and will die alone based on my childhood nightmares . Or prove me wrong and change the course of the direction in which I see Humanity heading and Ill die a foolish old man !
