Board index Vancouver Forum

Vancouver forum is an open forum which daily sketches the diversity and the commonality of Vancouverites. It is also an online community where you can discover and discuss various aspects of life in Vancouver and the world at large. If you are a visitor or a soon-to-be resident of Vancouver, or simply have an interest in it, you are more than welcome to join the group of Vancouver Forum posters, but know that any questions you may have about the city and its neighborhoods, the quality of life and lifestyle, are likely going to be met with a barrage of insults by some our resident comedians.

If you are a Vancouverite who just stumbled upon these pages, you'd best get the hell out of here before anyone sees you, but if you do decide to join in, for God's sake don't tell them your ethnicity or you may never hear the end of it! Do not be surprised by uncensored and sometimes blatantly stupid, crazy, remarks that shouldn't ever be spoken in private, let alone on a public forum. If that still hasn't deterred you, then you probably have a thick enough skin and a good enough sense of humour to handle this place. Good luck. You're going to need it!

Tops ya skids...but i still like my questions answered!
I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!

Barriers for women going into trades include (but are not limited to):

- gender stereotyping at schools and in society starting at a young age
- lack of awareness of trade training and available opportunities
- biased recruitment practices
- workplace culture that erode retention of women
- family responsibilities

I'd give him a bit more credit than that Renee, although I do appreciate you taking advantage of an opportunity to insult using your sharp sense of humour :)

Okay have it your way, maybe he is also thinking about if he remembered to lock the hand break on his walker.

Be serious RW; asking Ratcock to equate any kind of education for women as a means to get ahead in the workplace is a waste of time.

Yes, I can see how many can't get past the sexism stuff but he actually makes a valid point about women in specific fields and women making up the majority of those attending college and university. If you look at it, schools are now catering to the education of girls/women and boys/men are slipping. Just like there are impediments for women in trades, the same could hold true for men in universities.

So far, if I understand your caterwauling correctly, the status quo is OK because Mimi can lay bricks, women socialize better and take offense at prurient images and bad language, women have babies, and there is a range of barriers (which are utter bullshit)preventing women entering trades. Oh, and that blathering, blubber-filled behemoth Renee can't seem to get past ageist slurs that might have been funny the first time I heard them...10 years ago.

Wipe the chicken grease and pizza debris off your keyboard, Rotunda. You might see a whole lot of other keys that will open up some original thinking. Words like "salad" and "fruit" might manifest themselves.

What I haven't seen is any rational, reasoned and acceptable justification for the clear and obvious bias in the education system that is failing our communities, both men and women.

And remember, ladies, every social malfunction has a ripple effect. A very substantial ripple effect.

The reason for the "obvious bias" in the educational system is, once again, correction. A shift in the appeal to women which has been largely successful. In the true spirit of swinging over compensation, it has resulted in a lack of appeal for men. Once again, there is a correction happening that will hopefully bring us closer to balance.

I also don't see barriers as utter bullshit.

I'm pretty certain you heard them A LOT longer ago than that.

Talk about not being able to get past used up old slurs. I wonder if you have a single clue regarding how stupid you sound? :D

Go back and re-read the thread dumbass. More than a few good explanations were actually given in well thought out and easy to read posts. Maybe you just missed them or maybe you are too stupid to understand them or MAYBE……. you just need those cataracts removed.

Once again is this all you got? Okay let’s go with it. The "ripple effect" from my “bloated” stomach probably pales in comparison to the flapping your old wrinkled turkey neck does when it gets caught in the wind.

University is not just for simple education, but a test and to train a person mentally reliable in terms of quality for the job. I've seen huge differences of performance in my father's company between university grads and non-uni grads. People that went through university are naturally harder working and a more dependable person.
