I googled Akan: It's a religion from Ghana: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akan_religion The difference, off the top, would be the Akan have one supreme being:

The Akan believe in a Supreme Creator who takes on various names depending upon the region of worship. The deity is commonly referred to as Brekyirihunuade ("Almighty"). It is occasionally said that the Supreme god Nyame is a part of a triune deity or triad.[

It seems that that triad concept for one supreme god is related to Voodoo. There are many Vodun with different niches - but I understand that people who favour Vodun believe in a supreme god as well. The Vodun have niches. People interchangeably refer to the vodun and catholic saints with the same qualities.

Vodun cosmology centers around the vodun spirits and other elements of divine essence that govern the Earth, a hierarchy that range in power from major deities governing the forces of nature and human society to the spirits of individual streams, trees, and rocks, as well as dozens of ethnic vodun, defenders of a certain clan, tribe, or nation.
