Board index Vancouver Forum

Vancouver forum is an open forum which daily sketches the diversity and the commonality of Vancouverites. It is also an online community where you can discover and discuss various aspects of life in Vancouver and the world at large. If you are a visitor or a soon-to-be resident of Vancouver, or simply have an interest in it, you are more than welcome to join the group of Vancouver Forum posters, but know that any questions you may have about the city and its neighborhoods, the quality of life and lifestyle, are likely going to be met with a barrage of insults by some our resident comedians.

If you are a Vancouverite who just stumbled upon these pages, you'd best get the hell out of here before anyone sees you, but if you do decide to join in, for God's sake don't tell them your ethnicity or you may never hear the end of it! Do not be surprised by uncensored and sometimes blatantly stupid, crazy, remarks that shouldn't ever be spoken in private, let alone on a public forum. If that still hasn't deterred you, then you probably have a thick enough skin and a good enough sense of humour to handle this place. Good luck. You're going to need it!

Nobody goes to Sunday worship any more. Christianity is dead as a doornail. It is in steep decline, and has been for the past fifty years. The churches are sitting empty, and are either shutting down, or being bought up by Muslims and converted into mosques.
Xianity is disappearing everywhere, all over the World. That is because, when I rejected Xianity, I rejected it for everybody: for the whole World, not just for myself.
You'll have to go to the mosque if you want to see any action at all. Those are full to overflowing; and new ones are being built all the time.

What's the point in deluding yourself? Christianity has more followers than Islam, more followers than ever in history, and is growing more every day.

church is in my head. I am not into organized relegion. I believe in God altho i believe in a creator and do not know what to really think of the bible and all the relegions in general. What i am saying is i believe in some intelligent creator God that wants us to be good to each other and respect our planet, including the animals. I pray in my own mind and i give thanks for the good and prayers for those that need them. I guess i am more spiritual then relegious..i don't go around yapping about God, the bible or even go to church unless for funeral services, weddings, baptisms and so on. To each their own...try to live a good honest life and not be an asshole to people, plants, animals and mother earth. That is my ''relegion''

I don't make a distinction between being 'spiritual' and being 'religious'. I think it is a false and phony one. My wife also goes on in that vein, calling herself 'spiritual', not religious. I think it's nonsense. I can be both. Both spiritual and religious. Why not? I'll take my religion with all its problems and flaws, and try to work around them and through them. I don't just discard my religion, with all that's good in it, just because there are human problems with its application in practice. And being spiritual does not remove all 'rules' from your life. So if you are going to have rules anyways, why not be religious. Organized religion may have its problems, but it also brings many benefits, as long as you safeguard it from its flaws. This does not mean blindly following dogmas. It means applying the Faith in practice according to the Will of Allah. Finding out that Will, and doing it, is what it's all about. Just try to 'think it through'.

going kayaking, then coming home and fixing a slap-up sunday brunch while fiona makes bloody marys does me more good than I ever got out of church. I feel happy and grateful to whatever powers that be. Just glad to be healthy, comfortable, and alive.

Romero wrote:What's the point in deluding yourself? Christianity has more followers than Islam, more followers than ever in history, and is growing more every day.

I am not deluding myself. You are deluding yourself.
The Catholic Church announced way back in 2008, that, for the first time in History, it was no longer the World's largest denomination. Islam had surpassed it in sheer numbers. Catholics are no longer 'top dog'.
Ever since after about 1962, when the New Age sewage first appeared, Christianity has had the biscuit. It then entered into a steep decline. Now that decline is more evident than ever. The whole Christian rhetoric has disappeared. Where are the Bible-thumpers of yesterday? We don't see them any more.
It is easy to make converts when you are the only game in town. When there are no options, no alternatives, no challengers, no contenders, no competitors, no other choice. But now, it will not be nearly so easy for Christianity to flourish.
ENTER THE CONTENDER: ISLAM. Now we shall compete. And we shall win. We are thrashing the competition. We pose a serious challenge to Xianity. Islam is growing rapidly in the Xian countries. But Xianity is NOT spreading in the Muslim World. Quite the contrary: Christianity is being exterminated and eliminated, and is rapidly disappearing. For the Christians are in the enemy camp, and always have been. Get out of our land, or else convert to Islam. That's our ultimatum to you. You've caused quite enough trouble already.
The churches are shutting down; the mosques are opening up.
When I rejected Christianity, I rejected it for everybody; not just for myself, but for the whole World. Any other (legitimate) faith is acceptable. Not this one, however.
O! And another thing: With the collapse of Communism, the entire Left Wing has lost its last base of support, and no longer has a leg to stand on. Now that option has also disappeared.
Pretty soon now, if not already, Islam is going to be the 'only game in town'.
Accept Islam or be damned. That's your choice: Take it or leave it.

Just because I may 'buy into' some esoteric doctrines, that does not mean that I leave Islam. No, it only enhances my Islam. It is no substitute or replacement. But others who go into that New Age sewage, do so because they are spiritually bankrupt and are looking for an alternative to Christianity. So their motives are very different from mine. Quite the reverse, in fact.

Christianity has two billion adherents and growing. The largest religion mankind has ever seen and growing.

Not exactly a "dead" religion, is it?

So let's talk about heresy: All of Islam is a heresy, according to orthodox Christian belief. They make out our Prophet (pbuh) to be a false one--may Allah forgive me!
That's right. All Islam can be, and is, viewed as heretical by them.
So who's the heretic, now??

Um, sure, but magic and the Occult are indeed heresy in Islam. Allah does not approve of those who pretend to have His power.

And you can chalk that one up to foam hip pads and silicone breast forms. :)

The sole requirement is to please Allah by being a good person. Be peaceful, serene, loving, caring, ethical, moral, with good principles and values. Have faith and believe. Believe in the Supreme Being and the afterlife. That's just for starters.
There was no beauty contest and no mention of 'requirements'. You dreamed that up.
