nah.... i think technology is part of whats destroying the family unit and society in general.... i'm not a fan.... :(
I get that. People are obsessed with their phones. They can't drive and they can't even walk because they are so focused on that screen. Never mind getting a phone call that they feel compelled to answer.

It's fucked up. My 'manager' is having marital problems and there are kids involved. His daughter had to come to work with him yesterday because kids had off from school and his wife was working. I'm pretty sure their son (not his) is mid-teens and can be trusted to stay home by himself because he's just gonna sit there and play video games. The daughter is pre or early teens. From what I gather, she has issues at school and relating to others. He said she'll be fine and she can sleep in the conference room in the early morning hours. He made sure she had her breakfast. 'As long as she has her phone, everything will be okay.'

That's the gist of it, though. Kids are also glued to their devices and it makes them antisocial in a real life environment. It's anti-parenting because it gets the kids distracted so they don't cause a ruckus at home or in public.

People don't want to take responsibility for their own damn children and teach them how to live and take care of themselves.

my granddaughter spends her weekends at my house.... as a treat, we take her to Freddys for a milkshake and a snack since its right next to Krispy Kreme.... she has the option of either of those dining rooms but she chooses to bring it back to our house.... she says seeing all those ppl on phones and tablets is just sad.... she would much rather sit around the table with us and chitchat.... :(

Bad news I guess driving out to silverdale or across the border to Blaine for a fill up might bee worth it for cheaper gas.

Ohh well if you fill up on mission you can get gas and stop in at “pops pop shoppe” aka Rockos dinner for a burger and a milk shake great road trip for a Sunday drive.

That's cool. I spent a lot of weekends with my grandparents so my parents could have some 'alone' time. I always cherished it, spending time with Da and Grandma. They spoiled me rotten but I enjoyed spending time with them. I could talk with them and ask them whatever questions that were in my child-sized mind.

We would eat there for most meals and food was never a question because my grandfather owned a grocery/hardware store. A treat was to go to The Collinsville Drive-In for a sitdown meal or go up after dinner for soft-serve ice cream.

Also, going for a drive was a 'thing' with my grandparents. Not getting too far from home, just aimlessly wandering.

In one of my previous neighbourhoods, cars wouldn't stop. I'd pretend to stop. I'd say "thank you" as they drove past. I'd wave. It was so infuriating and dangerous.

My fantasy was to carry a weighted blanket to throw on their windshield as they sped by.

I complained to the city a few times and received an acknowledgment and a promise to put in pedestrian controlled lights which didn't happen.

Carrying a brick. Nice arty idea.

For next little while, yes. What you are looking for in Kits is going to disappear in several years. Van is changing rapidly.

Grandparents can be idols and heroes. That's really all I wanted to say and respect to YOU for being a good grandfather. I'm sure they mean the world to you but you mean the world to them, as well.

I like small town feel close to a city centre. Almost an oxymoron, but that's what Kits was in 90's when I arrived or Dunbar and Kerrisdale now. I'm seriously considering relocating to Victoria area, I am on the verge of retirement, have some friends there and visit the area evey now and then.

I do not mind the island also have you checked out the Sunshine Coast?

I am not a big fan of having to rely on BC Ferries to get back to the mainland.

Sunshine Coast relies on Ferries too. And it is a bit small. I could imagine having a cottage there and an aparmtent in Van, thus spliting my time. However, with Socialist governemnt it is dangerous to be appear wealthy

I think if I were to sell and move out of the GVRD for a slower pace of life.

I would not mind a place in somewhere like Penticton or Summerland.

When I first moved to the island, all my friends cautioned that I would feel trapped or claustrophobic. It didn't take very long to realize there was nothing on the mainland that I missed, so I felt none of that. It took no time at all to fall into the comfort of a slower pace.

I spent several days on the Island on a few occasions. Never I felt bored. However, living and visiting are two different things, but I usually get a vibe about a place after few days. And if I do move there, firends would love to come for a weekend, kids too, it should be fulfilling life. I like solitude (that includes milady) puncuated by more active events, travel, gatherings, family reunions, whatnot....
