This poster-like work reminds the viewer of the commercial art of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Perhaps it is the stark simplicity - Mebbe it's the nature of its execution. Is it an advertisement for a parapluie? Is it a statement that insouciance alone will carry the day? The palette of colours - spare and rather ominous - like dijon mustard on a fresh baguette, is a foil for the artist's love of drama - that scarlet umbrella. The figure itself lends an aura of mystery - where is she going? nice arse, but is she a butterface? Bless her heart, her confidence seems assured as she sashays through the warm tropical rain.
