KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — A bus plunged off a mountain highway near Nepal's capital on Wednesday, killing at least 17 Indian pilgrims and injuring 27 others, officials said.
The bus veered off the Prithvi highway about 16 kilometers (10 miles) west of Kathmandu, police officer Tejendra said.
He said the bus fell about 300 meters (1,000 feet) before it slammed into trees at the bottom of a hill

At least 23 people were killed when a crowded bus veered off a mountain road and plunged down a gorge in Indian-administered Kashmir, police say.
The accident happened as the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle while turning a bend, police said.
At least two dozen others were injured in the accident. Police and rescue services are at the scene.
Bus crashes are common in India and are often caused by poorly maintained vehicles, overloading and bad driving.

Twenty-five people were killed instantly when the bus fell in Shaanxi province. Ten others died in a hospital, the propaganda office of Chunhua county said in a statement.
