This was supposed to be Friday's listen but I couldn't get around to it, so it was yesterday's spin.





I forget what I was supposed to listen to yesterday and I'm not sure what I should listen to today.

Not really but maybe sometimes the music plans me? That's an album I bought when I was in high school. Sesame Street was my signature song in jazz band. We played the chart from the album and I had the trumpet solo. I could play most of the high range stuff but not like those guys. I had to practice to learn the songs we were playing but I didn't practice enough to make myself better than I was.

Our first chair guy was/is phenomenal. All he did was sit in his basement bedroom and practice, going through advanced learning books and exercises. He recently went through a bout with Bell's palsy and thought he'd never play again/life ruined. He sought out some help and therapy and recovered.

Me? I still have my trumpet and mouthpieces but my lips just don't work anymore.

I was going to listen to this album, another one I bought in high school. M.F. Horn. We used to perform at some kind of high school beauty/talent show for the county or whatever. It was kind of a (?) important yearly event. We had been wanting to play Hey Jude but there were failures there. We had the charts but some other people needed to learn the song and we needed to learn how to play it together. Our band director basically told us that we suck and we don't deserve to play that song. Everyone took it home and practiced, came in early the next day to practice together and that was that. We learned it. Our jazz band's signature song for that. Some of us were out of the pit or on the catwalk or in the audience. The randomness that you hear, here. We did that and followed that with the singing, as well.
