Did you collect the CERB? Are you paying it back?

Unread post by Berry Sweet »

I never touched that shit.

I'm seeing online and hearing about a bunch of shit going down with the CERB. People are still fucked to this day. Businesses closing down, outrageous amounts being asked to pay back. People who never applied for cerb getting mail saying they owe. Some people got their tax returns taken, others the government took their gst and even child tax benefits. There's people on disability who applied for it, double dipped. So many people are fucked.

I guess this is far from over. The only way to get out of this situation is to declare bankruptcy. I know Mel bragged about taking CERB. I wonder if he's in the hole with paying back money he wasn't eligible for?

Anyone here lose a business or get fucked paying back huge amounts?

I knew this would happen, that's why I never applied for it. So glad I just worked thru the pandemic and minded my own business not doing anything stupid, like a lot of people apparently did.

I'll say.

The government didn't play fair foe those who worked and paid into UI and were eligble to collect it but got switched to CERB and now they have to pay back even more.

I always knew that socialism was a mug's game... but after I kicked my freeloading/non-aspiring delinquent son out of the house when he was approaching 20 years old, I got a taste of it.

He'd continue to be drug fucked, like before, but roll in and appeal to our heartstrings, in his best non-drug fucked manner.

He was "starving", he just needed to eat... he was just trying to change his life...

He was full of shit, no matter how many shopping bags he filled up. He was just trading what we gave him in an encampment 50 kilometers away.

Sometimes, he was so drug fucked, he'd boast about it.

So I cut the motherfucker off for 3-4 years... then he hit a gum tree at 80 kph head on, flipped over on concrete posts, and started to bleed out upside down, his legs crushed and pinched in the wheel wells. The medivac chopper got him to the CBD, pumped 8-9 litres of blood in him throughout. But the whiplash fried his brain. He was in a coma for 10 weeks and two stints to relieve the brain pressure. He's like an eleven year old now.

Being taking care of by the NDIS and Vic Roads, who spent over a year arguing which governmental should pay more than the other, while he festered in a rehab wing of any empty hospital during the height of covid and lock downs.

Socialism is a motherfucker.

He's got the intellectual capacity of a 12 year old, the memory of an 85 year old, and he's half paralyzed mostly up his right side. He also has titanium screws in both hips, knees, ankles, and he got a toe amputated on one foot.

You can visit him twice in a month, or twice in a year, and he has no sense of time anymore. He still thinks you just visited him.

Yet, Australian socialism kept him in an abandoned rehab hospital wing for 18 months, in a padded box/bed, while he constantly shit himself and tried to kill himself because Vic Roads (the government agency responsible for road insurance) wanted the NDS (governmental National Disability Scheme) to pay and vice versa.

My kid died years before... and I mourned him.

But the governmental agencies tasked with his care for the remainder of his shifty life actually both refused a minimum standard of care for his near lifeless corpse, despite both being 100% responsible for it.

...at least for 2 years...

Geez, wow...what a story! That's sad.

I have a titanium rod on my femur, one hip, knees and one toe. It was weird reading that.

He didn't hit his head. He hit a dense red gum tree at 80 kph head on, then flipped over and tore most of the roof of his station wagon off.The impact, or abrupt stop was far worse than potentially striking his head on the windscreen. His head was scrambled eggs... and his lap and below were crushed in the vehicle, upside down, as a first responder who lived on the property line got woken up from the impact, called it in officially, then called all his first responder mates to get there sooner.

There were two attempts by the chopper to get him... then they had to drive him 20-25 minutes to a cricket field because they didn't think the ambulances could get him closer to a hospital before he died. And he was bleeding out, they were running out of blood.

The first responder... I talked to him a few weeks later. He cried... because my son was coherent the whole time he was suspended upside down... then the brain swelling increased and he was all over the place.

Like I said before... 1 skull stint in hospital... then a second one half a day later, and a long lasting coma in ICU.

Dunno what else to say. My kid is a vegetable now.

Thx. I'm trying...I like walking. Did all the physio and pushed myself. It was very painful. I'm still not done. One of my legs still doesn't bend all the way at the knee (this is the most severely damaged leg).

I'm still doing my own physio at home on my own, exercises & such. I still have to stretch the knee daily (which is still painful to do) but I know in the end, once it fully bends, will be worth it.

I've talked with some other people who are impressed with my progress, esp with it only being 18 months since the accident. They are amazed I am walking in such a smooth manner and doesn't look like I have any injuries at all.

I've been told of people they know who had broken legs and are still gibbled after years gone by. One person told me a young girl broke her legs, its been years since her accident...she refused physio and refused to help herself...spends a lot of time in bed or just lounging. But when she does walk, she's slow and drags one of her legs when she walks...this is the result of refusing physio.
I don’t understand why people are like that? Just not giving a fuck? I was so eager to get on my feet abd get back to normal. I'll stop at nothing to do this because I like walking and strength training. I can't wait for the day I can fully bend the one knee so I can do squats again.

I'm glad I was told about the girl who drags her leg, because of her lack of trying she most likely fucked her leg for life. I could be in that boat if I didn't try.
I also play brain games on line to help with my memory, and reading everyday. I was a bit of an airhead after the accident from hitting my head...things just went past me...but now I'm all good.

It's important for one to push themselves back into recovery. No pain, no gain.

I didn't collect the CERB.

In the DTES, I heard people advising each other how to apply for it.

A friend works for EI online. She told me something about having to talk to people that owe money for taking CERB.

I wouldn't take money like that, if there's any other option (working). Being dependent on government aid sucks.

I remember people who didn't need it were taking it at a certain workplace I knew people at. Dumbasses - not people I'd listen to for advice.

A lot of people were telling me to take it because it was "free money". Nothing in life is free...there's always a catch. I knew something was fishy about it.

I even know some people who were on disability, some took it while being on disability, others went off disabilty completely just to get the CERB instead because it "paid" more. All of them are screwed now. They complain to me that's it not fair. It is fair. They all did something they knew they shouldn't have. They very well knew it would come back to bite them in the ass, and it did. They ask me if my child tax got back or taken, and said no, because it didn't and I never filed for CERB. They tell me it's not fair and I should be cut back too. Wtf? Why? Just because they fucked up and I didn't, doesn't mean I should be penalized for their stupid decisions in life.

I kept working and doing what I was doing without CERB. Yeah, it would've been nice to have and extra $2000/mo and treat my kid and myself...but that was just a dream. I owed about $1000 on my credit card at that time, I took the time to pay it off because I was worried about interest rates going up. I made a very good descion. Now I'm debt free with great credit. The banks keep chasing after me for upping my credit limit and offering my loans with low interest charges. One can not fool me. I'm not even doing that. Somethings fishy with that too.

Lie, lies, lies, manipulation and stupidity everywhere. Everyone is jumping off a cliff...but not me.

I'm actually looking for new work because of my legs. I want to work from home on the computer. I'm thinking of taking a few courses for computer work and getting a job at revenue Canada, the passport office or some other government receptionist job. There's so many vacancies.

The last thing one wants to do is listen to stupid peoples advice on "free money".

The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) provided financial support to employed and self-employed Canadians who were directly affected by COVID-19. Applicants received $2,000 for a 4-week period (the same as $500 a week), between March 15 and September 26, 2020.

The EI-ERB was intended for individuals with insurable income, whereas the CERB was intended for individuals whose income was not insurable, such as self-employed individuals.Jun 22, 2022

Great work!

When I got my hand crushed, it was 5 months in plaster, and a further 6-7 months of rehab exercises to get the fingers and knuckles moving again.

Nobody knows my hands aren't exactly the same unlessI tell them or show them the range of movements.

Some dexterity can never be regained after a smash like that... but I'm 100% in the appearance and 90-95% in the function.

It's really bizzare to not be able to bend a joint on the body. Not until happens does one understand.
It is fuckin frustrating sometimes.

How long did it take till you got the majority of function?

I feel for you, Berry. I know someone who had a similar accident, who is destined to be wheelchair bound for the rest of their life.
You likely have issues that don't let you be how you were...but you are so fortunate to able to still function in a somewhat 'normal' capacity. Not underestimating the work it must take for you to get there, but at least you still have the ability to get there. Paralysis is so cruel. The will can be there...but will isn't enough if your body is no longer functioning in that capacity.
Stay strong.
