I once served myself a huge plate of refined beans as a child at a buffet with my folks. My father saw it, laughed, then bet me five bucks I couldn't eat it all. Challenge accepted! I love refried beans, and I've eaten a lot of them.

I've heard that letting them soak before cooking them helps take out most of the gaseous effect... but I don't like making them from scratch.
