Lately I'm fascinated by these monster burgers that no one can fit their mouths around.

This is from Steak & Shake. I wonder how much it cost?

Look at the size of that meat!

That egg should get an honorable mention, too.

I know it's cooked too much for my liking. I prefer bloody rare.

Another of Dageaux's wild stories:

During Katrina I helped this guy get some data that he lost on his computer. It was an easy fix and took me all of about 30 minutes, but dude was totally convinced I had saved the world. He insisted that he "repay" me with a steak dinner(keep in mind this is during the devastation of Katrina and NOTHING was open and NO ONE had any real food left. We were all eating MREs and whatever we could find that hadn't expired). So I am like "yea sure buddy, call me when you find one" so the next day he shows up and says "Let's go get some steak". Now I had already noticed that dude was VERY Italian, but being Italian myself I had thought nothing of it. So I hop in his SUV and we go pick up his.... Moll. I swear there is no other way to describe this woman. Imagine every "Babe on the arm of a mobster" from every bad mafia movie you have ever seen, that was her to a "t". complete with fur coat, heels and hose (this is in the middle of the heat wave season in NOLA) Between that, and some things he said to me in the car I am beginning to get the idea that maybe this guy is mafioso. New Orleans does have a pretty well developed mafia after all. Large Italian population etc.

We go to a restaurant that is OPEN (again I would like to point out that NOTHING was open at that point) with guards standing outside the door. They obviously had their own generator and someone had cleaned up after the storm. It was obviously "invite only" and also obviously only for those who knew what was what, and who was who. So we walk in and he takes me directly to the bar, sits me down, and runs off the bartender and steps behind the bar like he owns the place. Hell, maybe he did, I didn't ask. Fixes me a drink (bloody mary), and asks me how I like my steak. I respond "on the rare side of medium rare" and it was like I had passed some sort of test. His face brightens up and he says, "I hate to see a man eat a steak cooked more than medium rare, it ruins the whole experience"

I ate my steak with this gentleman and his lady and he brought me back to the network closet I was living in at the time. I often wonder what would have happened and where I would be if I had taken the job he offered me that night.

Anywho, that is what I think of when I think of a bloody steak now.

Good story, Dag!

I read most of that in Joe Mantegna's voice.

Yesterday, as I walked past a bistro with valet service, a well dressed guy got out of a SUV that was parked in my path and he went around the front to open the door for a lady who was wearing a very elegant but form fitting dress. She looked like she had expensive taste... well, they both did. I think the guy was wearing a silk suit. I tried not to stare, as I find it rude, but if I were to guess, I'd say these two were used to a lavish lifestyle.

In LA you experience things like that all the time.
Your favorite mistake.
