Voted in Victoria's municipal election!

Also voted in the mail-in ballot on Proportional Representation yesterday... then got drunk listening to coverage of the referendum...

Question 1: I voted to keep the First Past The Post system as it's the system that tends to elect majority governments that get stuff done...

Question 2: I ranked the 3 pro rep systems in the following order: 1) mixed member proportional, which is used in other countries... 2) rural-urban proportional, which, as a whole, hasn't been used anywhere, but it's a combination of mixed member proportional and single transferable vote, both of which are used in other countries... 3) dual member proportional, which was only recently developed in Canada and is not in use anywhere...

However, it was fun to listen to CFAX 1070's coverage of the municipal election and get wasted...

It was particularly entertaining to hear that the nearby municipalities of Oak Bay, Saanich, North Saanich, Sidney, and Colwood all got new mayors... as did Nanaimo... which means that mayor-elect Leonard Krog will have to give up his position as an MLA in the provincial government... Sheila Malcolmson is gonna run for MLA in the provincial government in Krog's old riding, which means she will have to give up her position as an MP in the federal government... this is so exciting :cheer:

The psychobitch Lisa Helps got in again as mayor... along with 5 incumbent councillors...

3 new councillors, Laurel Collins, Sarah Potts, and Sharmarke Dubow... all of whom I voted for in advanced polling on Oct 10... then three days later Laurel Collins came to my door and I found out that the three of them are allied with incumbent councillors Ben Isitt and Jeremy Loveday, neither of whom I like at all... I feel tricked... cheated... lied to... robbed... deceived... betrayed... like a boob...

Whether or not to spend money on a citizens assembly to explore the possibility of amalgamation between Victoria and its neighbouring municipality Saanich -- voted yes... not because I'm hoping for amalgamation, but because I'm hoping that they'll decide to re-do the boundary between Victoria and Saanich... it would be nice to live in Saanich... it would be nice to live in a different municipality than my sometimes annoying family...

Mayor - I voted for Stephen Hammond of NewCouncil.ca... normally, municipal elections in Victoria typically don't have political parties, typically everyone runs as an independent... but this year, there are two political parties... NewCouncil.ca and Together Victoria... and some independents... so this year, to unseat mayor and council, I've decided to vote for the two political parties...

For the first time since 2008!

2011 I didn't get my voter card and assumed it was because of my library ban... and didn't contact anyone to find out why I didn't my voter card, in case the police would get mad at me again...

2014 I left it to the last minute... and ended up just staying home and eating those chocolates with the brandy in them...

But this year I voted the first chance I got (Oct 10) even though election date is Oct 20...
