I think for at least two years they have known about the engines, not sure if they ever fixed them, but Ill ask my friend.
Some of the other engine brands had the same issues.

Ok. This particular model has the Briggs 44N677 (M44) 22 HP 724cc Intek engine if that helps...

The new Brigs Intec is it, the issues is the gas needs cleaned before using, the mower repair guy said the gas needs filtered three times at least to keep it running.
A lot of them needs a tune up after the first use he said.

No doubt the things are set to run ultra-lean, 'cause of California... Not sure how difficult they would be for me to tune, but I could probably do it once I bust off the California Compliant carburetor adjustment limiting caps!

Wonder about the fuel problem though... Is the standard filter no good, perhaps? It would be easy enough for me to throw a quality secondary filter inline somewhere...

He also said though there are some which have no issues, but it's a chance you take.

Isn't it a shame, California emissions stuff is bad, and it's fraudulent as well.
It makes you have worse gas mileage so you use more gas, it nullifies whatever benefit you have..
Along with that you have the reformulated gas, you use more gas which is worse in the end since you use so much more.
I say it's a scam, the state gets a lot of taxes from it which California needs.
