Transit Police might be interesting if you want to be the complaint department on the move  I bet they get all kinds of grief.
I wish I was young, and up there, those are some great opportunities, and you know they are not going away anytime soon. .

I used to help my dad paint signs when I was a kid, I could do that job.
We had a lot of stencils, and some nice brushes.

I know very few people are seeing this thread but: Coast Mountain Bus is accepting applications this week for SERVICEPERSONS...

SERVICEPERSONS ususally start out on nights, like maybe 8pm to 5am, 4 nights a week; getting buses ready for the next day.
They refuel buses, check oil and coolant levels, wash buses, sweep out buses. drive empty buses around to where they need to be...
It is a dirty, dusty, oily, outdoor-all weather type of job... Coveralls and breathing masks supplied... Showers on site too...
There are afternoon and even day shifts, but most start out on nights... They have a shift sign up once a year, and bid on any vacancies in between sign ups... 7 different work sites: Marpole, Oakridge, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Port Coquitlam, Richmond & Surrey... Plans to build a new east Richmond-HAMILTON depot, to finally replace North Van & Oakridge, in 2015....
$19.30 an hour to start, with a top rate nearing $26 an hour after 2 years... (Raises every 8 months, PLUS April 1 as well)...

WOW nice pay it sounds, and good job.

Hey Super, with cost of living being high there, how much would you need to buy a house, and live comfortably ?
Wage, food house, travel, and upkeep .
Might not be so easy to answer maybe .

Well... If you want a house in the actual c-i-t-y- of Vancouver, You are talking nearly a Million dollars!!
It's a real struggle for many...
Many people end up renting out suites to help pay the mortgages.... Or settle for smaller places such as townhouses or condos... Or live further out of the city...
Houses like 30 minutes away from the city are more into like the half million range... Townhomes into the $400,000 range...
Minimum wage is $10.25 an hour, but many say a "liveable wage" is much closer to $20 an hour...
Some work 2 or even 3 jobs... Some share small condos/apartments...

The Mrs and I are doing OK, but we didn't go out and buy a $750,000 home either... It would have been a much bigger struggle if we had had kids...

I'm sure that there must be some here in the lower mainland that will never actually pay off their mortgages/debt...

Yeah $10 to $15 even isn't manageable by the sound of it unless with someone.
I would think there is no saving unless you do the rice, and bean meals.
Affordable housing should be something politicians should be working on since they likely created the mess.
I could likely buy a town home, but then what would I do for food .

Hi Sharlee! I typed up a huge response to you, and for some reason it wouldn't let me post it??? Maybe information overload?

Does she have a particular industry/interest?

The Casinos are 24/7, and are often always hiring... Google: Great Canadian, and Gateway casinos...

Most employers have already posted, and even filled their summer/seasonal opportunities...

Over at Transit, TransLink has a couple of "student" postings up now...
Over at Coast Mountain Bus, there are some postings up, but none that I think fit with going back to school in the fall...
I haven't seen a FAREBOX posting in like a year, but that might be ideal, approx 5 hours a night X maybe 4 nights a week, emptying fareboxes... $19 an hour...

One of my favorite sites to check in on is http://www.civicinfo.bc.ca/16.asp the list of opportunities changes daily!

I can give you more websites to check, if interested...

The city of Vancouver has a Careers page, with a SEPERATE Short Term/On Call page... AND a seperate link to PNE/PlayLand jobs too!

WOW, nice pay rate, to me it looks like they would have 100000+ people putting in for them.
Is that a good pay there, it would be good here.
