Metal Detectors ?

Hello, has anyone ever used a Metal Detector, or had one ?
I'm looking into them now, and might get me one in the future for a hobby.
There is quite a few out there, and many really expensive, but I know nothing much about them.
Me, and my dad bought a cheep one when i was a kid, it didn't do much besides pick up bottle caps, and nails.

Well any comments are welcome, and maybe appreciated

I have a few places in mind, by the river, at the school, we have a Civil war fort here, and maybe the parks.
I think I could get some walking in, and it would be good for me.

... a civil war fort? maybe you'll find some old ammo?

Maybe I could, or maybe more. It's an old earth fort so there might not be much.

It would be nice to go up there, and find a payroll cache i wouldn't let anyone know that could tax me.

Frosty, you'd love the beach here for that. I bet you'll find some good or unusual stuff especially if not many other people have it as a hobby...

Yeah beaches is a good place for detecting, people loose stuff all the time there.
Here likely the most i would find is a few coins, and beer cans.
