I do like to keep an open mind. Here on the other hand is some scientific explanations to how we see and hear things. I however when I have seen things on three occasions do not believe that they were in any way hallucinations

You might find the fascinating book Supernatural by Graham Hancock very interesting. Graham Hancock documents a lot of evidence that it actually is the case that shamans all over the world have always used drugs and other methods to access different dimensions.

Ibogaine being used to ease heroin withdrawal is very interesting. If it works then I imagine that addicts who want to quit donèt have access to it due to it cutting into the profits of the big pharmaceuticals.
