Beautiful gems of arabia... (women).

There is so much history there... The greeks, romans, crusaders have all looked upon that same landscape.

Celts, Gauls, and lots of Germanic people also in the Ceasar's army's also.
The Romans actually set up whole armies of retired soldiers in much of the middle east, you can see it in the people a lot today.
Also the white slave trade brought in a lot of people who have mixed in with the people in those areas which also migrated in replacing the locals.
Theory is much of the people where white in North Africa, and Persia at one time.
Frosty, how convenient that the media leaves out the white slave trade. Wasn't there around a million whites taken as slaves centuries ago??

It was millions, and millions, and most don't realize Christianity was the religion in the middle east when Islam rolled over it.
Even in America Whites outnumbered blacks as slaves, the British started it here allowing a black man own a slave, and then calling a lot indentured servants.

Idiots, just run over them, and there would be no issue with them anymore. Back over them repeatedly to make it just a red mark in the road.

But let's be truthful here. In theory and most likely practice, white indentured servants were only indentured until their debt was paid. Black slaves and their offspring more often than not, were slaves for their entire lifetime. That's the ethical and moral difference.

Furthermore the type of indentured servitude practiced here in the US was in most cases voluntary. In the 16 and 17 hundreds the newly formed British colonies like Jamestown needed cheap labor. Poor Europeans who could not afford or were not prepared to travel or live on their own in the colonies, signed contracts with wealthy land owners and business men to provide a "term of service" in exchange for travel expenses, food, lodging, etc. When the debt was paid, the indentured individual was free to go or stay as they pleased. Typically a "skilled worker" was indentured for approximately 5 years while unskilled labor was indentured for up to 8 years. At the end of indenturement many were give land grants or money or tools so they could become full fledged citizens and members of society.

In contrast, blacks taken captive against their will by other blacks, who then sold their captives to Portuguese slavers were bought like meat at a slave market. They were slaves for life as their children would be whether it was here in America or the British holdings in the Caribbean.

Don't get me wrong, being indentured was a very hard life...An indentured servant was expected to work like dog for no wages. Their owners were only obligated to provide them with enough food and lodging to survive. Many died of disease, work accidents and exhaustion long before their term of service was up. Also you could expect to get your term of service extended if you could not meet your obligations. If a woman got pregnant or if a man got injured or sick their servitude would be extended at the contract owner's discretion to cover the lost time and labor.

Blacks were chattel slaves... The oldest and noblest form of slavery.

The problem is that they think they were the only ones who were enslaved like that.

And they think being a slave in the southern states was worse than being a gallic chattel slave in the roman empire.

A lot, and most at times where servants for life, and forced into it because unfair taxation, and family debts they where born into.
They got beat, or lashed, killed even which was illegal most the time, but not enforced either unless the law wanted.
Most that came here where forced to be on ships, a lot wanted to get away from oppression so much they agreed.
Not much difference in most cases.

No way in hell would I want to ever change places on a southern farm back then, or in the roman empire days.
A mine, slave ship, tobacco, or cotton field is no life I would wish on a person.
Even the house slaves in Rome the slaves where used, and abused unless you where lucky.

I think you might be confusing indentured servitude with the British practice of shipping the dregs of British society to the American colonies as so called convicts...Many of those people guilty of no greater crime than being poor, ended up in slave like situations, abused or killed. The entire Georgia and South Carolina colonies were basically a debtor's prison where wealthy plantation owners would use convict labor no different than slave labor.

After the US achieved independence that shit was stopped. The British could no longer dump their poor and homeless in the American colonies. So the Brits sent them to the Botany Bay colony which was basically just a remote outpost of the British Empire at the time. I like to tell arogant Aussies (which is just about all of them) that if it wasn't for the American Revolution, Australia would still be in the hands of the aborigines.... It's a joke but it's probably partially true....

Not confusing them, many did come here for debts as indentured servants. The land owners a lot of times made people sell off kids, and parts of family to pay debts, then sold them off as servants as well.
The debtors prisons where another thing, and i believe some agreed from them even to be indentured servants when better off people needed labor.
Happened in Rome as well at times.

What do you really know about blacks in the US or their social or cultural situation?

To be perfectly honest there are a lot of black people in the US that still hold onto the slavery thing as a means of justifying their anti social behavior but they are in the minority. Even more annoying are the blacks that are more recent immigrants latching onto the slavery thing like they were somehow affected by it simply through the color of their skin.

Most black people in the US are struggling with getting past more recent racial issues of inequality, poverty and the overall deterioration of the black community. Black people only make up 13% of the US population. Crime, violence and drugs have decimated their communities and most black people realize that's where the real issue is. It's the reprehensible white liberals and their lap dogs in the black community who use racial division as a way to grab power and votes, who are the ones keeping the slavery issue alive. It's the scumbag white liberals who are continuing to agitate for reparations for black slavery and unfortunately a segment of the more weak minded blacks are swallowing the koolaid, (no pun intended)

By the late 1700s British prisons where full to the bursting. Many prisoners were just rotting in unused hulks sitting in the river Thames. Most of these people were simply poor and couldn't pay whatever debt of fine they happened to be charged with. The British government actually subsidized the transport of these prisonors to the colonies and consequently it made it so that a "convict laborer" could be bought much more cheaply than an "indentured" white male or even a black African slave.

So I'm still of the opinion that much of the white slavery taking place in the American colonial period was probably convict labor.

Most where at points, but still more where as indentured also.
Either one most the time you where nothing more than trash, and disposable labor.
Like the African slaves they where whipped, had to live in bad conditions, and life sometimes was harder due to the fact you where cheaply got.

Would have made more sense to enslave the asians... But they are smarter than negroes and they can fight.

Slavery was on the way out anyhow when it was stopped here, keeping slaves does cost money.
A good machine can do more work, and cost less back then.
That's why a lot of migrant work started after slavery, you pay them they leave till you need them again, little upkeep.

Some of the Chinese that first came to America was treated like slaves by the way, worse in a lot of cases.
Other Chinese helped keep them that way just like Blacks did to each other.

Irish, Dutch, Germans, and many other peoples where treated just as bad till the next bunch of people came in to replace the other.

Ya, history hasn't always been pretty, even in Canada. Although slavery wasn't much of a thing here (no cotton to pick here), there was still exploitation... Building our first transcontinental railway, Canadian Pacific, relied heavily on Chinese 'Coolies.' It's always the same story: They didn't want to pay White man's wages for grueling work, nor did they want to worry about complaints about safety. So, bring in a bunch of Chinks to do the grueling work for cheap. Of course, that's not to say White man didn't work hard either, as they certainly did. But business is business I guess...

Still see the same exploitation here today: When I hauled produce up from the Southwestern states, I dealt with Mexicans. A lot of Mexicans. So one Mexican dockworker at a smaller farm figured out I was from Canada, and we start talking (after he offered me a hit from his meth/speed pipe, no joke, but I declined for obvious reasons)... He tells me he worked at a farm in Canada for a season, and it was a horrible experience: East Indian farm owner wouldn't even let them off the property, ran him ragged, didn't even pay him properly, and fed him nothing but baked beans and bread. Stated he will never work in Canada again after that experience.

I wish exploitation could be stopped, but I don't think it ever can under the current system. Business hasn't changed: Produce the most you can for as little as you can, and if you don't, the other guy will and your business will fail.

The Chinese where treated really bad with the railways, and just in general, it's a shame in my opinion with how good the people where, and hard working.
You had the bad segment also, but on the most part they just wanted a new life, and to get away from China for whatever reason they had.

On the railways they put down more track than anyone, I think it was 7 miles a day to three or four the Irish did.
Most the Mexican workers are hard working also, just don't let them have beer during breaks, they will go find a place to sleep it off. :teehe: man I saw a lot of them doing that, and not coming back to work.
