We dont have Halloween.
But they are trying to make it a thing here... To increase sales.

I bet the older generations are weary of Halloween due to it being perceived as an 'American influence'!
Yup! And you can Google pictures. They don't even look like a dick! They look like a big fat tube steak simply sewn on!
Really, I thought you would have had it a long time before this was a country.
It's pretty much just a UK thing there. It really doesn't mean much to the rest of Europe.Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 1:59 am Really, I thought you would have had it a long time before this was a country.
You're lucky.
Nothing is forcing you to participate in any of these things if you don't want to though.Berry Sweet wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 2:54 am You're lucky.
Here, right now, there's Halloween shit, thxgiving shit AND Xmas shit everywhere.
The commercialism of it all has really turned me off over the years. All of it is garbage.
We have all hallows day which is for remembering the saints, martys and the dead.Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 1:59 amReally, I thought you would have had it a long time before this was a country.
It's a lot of fun as a kid, and a lot of grownups enjoy it also with parties, and stuff.
Been to a few parties in my life, and they where more fun than Christmas in my opinion.
Things are more traditional in here.Berry Sweet wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 2:54 amYou're lucky.

I have those but I prefer to use the electric candles.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 4:58 am Traditions do change over time though. I still remember my Grandmother using pic below to light up the Christmas tree, because German tradition, but it's quite apparent that live candles clipped onto a tree inside your living room may not be the best thing! She eventually caved and just strung lights around the tree like everyone else!
It's a different mindset here. I live on a dead end rural road that nobody travels down unless they live here, and my one neighbour decks his house right out at Christmas. I actually asked him and his wife why they go through so much trouble decorating, considering where we live, and their answer was that they don't do it for anyone else, but they in fact just do it for themselves. She was quite straight forward with that fact.
Basically the same thing, we just bastardized it with some native, and Mexican day of the dead stuff, and a lot of commercialism.Odinson wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 4:33 amWe have all hallows day which is for remembering the saints, martys and the dead.Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 1:59 amReally, I thought you would have had it a long time before this was a country.

6th of November this year.
But there is no pumpkins, costumes, trick or treating or skeletons on the yard.
People go to the cemetery to light candles.
We have trick or treating during easter.
How about the old Christmas pickle did she do that also.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 4:58 am Traditions do change over time though. I don't remember the Christmas pickle, so that's one thing we didn't do! That may be purely a German American thing.Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 1:24 pm How about the old Christmas pickle did she do that also.
Yup! Krampus reminds kids to be good! He actually is kind of scary!Blue Frost wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 3:44 pm I guess the Christmas pickle is a thing they didn't want to bring over
There is Krampus, I wish that was a thing here the Germans could have made it a bit more lively for the bad kids here.
Halloween (Samhain) is a Celtic thing. It's the second most important Sabbat, Beltane being the first.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 2:42 amIt's pretty much just a UK thing there. I would happily play the part of Krampus, and beat the grownups for not raising their kids right.Mel Gibson wrote: ↑October 18th, 2021, 4:22 pmYup! Krampus reminds kids to be good!
