Here in the states French was one of the most taught languages for decades along with Spanish.
English as many know is taught all around the world thanks to the British Empire, and Empires is how most spread like in Indonesia, and Polynesia.
Native languages was suppressed in many places also of those under rule by those empires.

Latin was fazed out in the early 70s here, I didn't get the chance of learning it.
I was looking forward to learning Latin myself even if not used by the common person, many of the books I wanted to read was in Latin.

I saw little reason for French, or Spanish back then, but Spanish would be handy now with the flood of Illegals we have here.
Japanese would have been good in the 80s, and early 90s.

I learned a little Latin over the years, and it helps with Spanish, and a few other languages.
The fun part about learning other languages is how you can find words in other languages that match in that branch of the world.

I have forgotten most what I have learned over the years, I might be able to pick it back up if I had reason.
Japanese was one I was learning, German I knew some because of all the Germans in my area growing up.
LOL, German seems to me a ugly sounding language, no offense to the Germans, it's just hard on my ears.
