I disagree. When I look at pictures of people in earlier times, I often can't help but notice how fucking ugly they are.... like products of incest. Their faces are asymmetrical with disproportionate features and they aged sooooo fast. They also all looked more or less the same.

Nowadays there is a lot more ethnic mixing. Even if it's just multiple nationalities on the same continent (ie. german/french or chinese/vietnamese) it seems to have evened out the blatently retarded looks people had hundreds of years ago. Even better looking though are cross continent mixes that further balance out extreme and harsh facial features and create a more moderate look.

I don’t think it has anything to do with ethnic mixing and everything to do with proper nutrition and medical care.

I agree you do see an awful lot of homely people in old pictures, especially from the 19th and early 20th centuries. But you have to remember that people didn’t have their physical deficiencies fixed back then. There simply wasn’t the medical technology to do it and improper nutrition led to all kinds of minor and major physical irregularities that affected people’s physical appearance. Furthermore the lives people led where much harder than they are today and people grew old before their time and looked old before their time as well. Also diseases that we rarely see today were common and they affected people in how they looked as well. Afflictions such as rickets left people physically deformed and deseases such as small pox left scares that today can be remedied but back then you were stuck with it.

Royalty, even with their privilege and money were still at the mercy of the medical technology of the times and even to some extent the nutritional factors. Even as recent as the early 20th century if you were born with a cleft pallet, crossed eyes, large birth marks a misshapen head or what have you; you were stuck with it for life. It didn’t matter how much money you had the medical technology to fix birth defects just wasn’t there. That’s why you see so many people in old pictures that have eyes that look in different directions, huge noses, no teeth, and odd shaped heads and so on. Man by design is an ugly creature because he is a biologically complex creature and the more complex the organism the more there is to go wrong if the right conditions are not present.
