Entire B.C. Liberal riding association board resigns over criminologist's appointment as candidate
The head and entire board of directors of the B.C. Liberal riding association for Abbotsford South have resigned in protest of an “unfair and not democratic” appointment of prominent criminologist Darryl Plecas to be the party's candidate in next spring’s provincial election.
In a letter posted on the Abbotsford Today website, past-president Stephen Evans said his association had no say in the University of the Fraser Valley criminologist’s nomination.
Evans’ letter questions whether Plecas, “an untested politician,” can beat independent MLA John can (sic) Dongen after his appointment precluded a standard nomination contest with rival Liberals in the riding, including Abbotsford city Coun. Moe Gill.
