Get the shovel

Unread post by mimi »

There's a load to remove....and it isn't snow.

I keep hearing on the news... repeatedly, that home owners are to shovel snow from the sidewalks in front of their property by 10 am....or they will be fined.
First of all....the law doesn't support that...and numerous lawsuits find that there are too many circumstances to consider, to find the home owner liable. In fact, some cases found that removing the snow created a more dangerous condition. Bare sidewalks are susceptible to forming black ice...whereas a snowy sidewalk could provide traction.

Secondly....I don't own the sidewalk....and if I chose to remove the sidewalk...I WOULD be in violation of the law, as it is the property of the city.

Thirdly...it's debatable, that there are more shovellers that suffer injury than fallers. =)))
So...I say....
=)))

if the homeowner is liable for sidewalks then the city should be liable for the roads.

what is that? and how do i make the rest of my life about it.

I don't MIND shovelling the walk....but it only takes once, to JUUUUUUST finish clearing it, only to have the city road plow come by and heap more snow on it than was there in the first place.

maybe highway one doesn't need widening. perhaps some of that money would bee better spent on a coherent snow plan. it's fairly obvious that we need one in the years going forward.

Since birth...the only person responsible when I fell, was me. I don't understand how adding snow to the equation, suddenly makes it somebody elses responsibility. =)))

a better response is needed than the one below.
“It’s really an issue of talking about the resilience of our city,” he said. “It’s not necessarily about plowing through snow but making sure that our systems of transportation and mobility are really sensitive toward how things can change and can adapt to change.”

It makes more sense for people to become more adaptable, than trying to come up with a system that covers ever-changing situations.

So some guy witnesses cars sliding all over the place, and decides it's necessary to make snowtires mandatory. Unless NO cars WITH snowtires get into trouble...then it's a useless solution.

Of course...and that's a classic example of people needing to become more adaptable.
I suspect that people who drive like fools without snowtires, will drive equally or more foolishly with them. :D

If you clear the curbside snow in front of your house in Vancouver your neighbors park there instead of clearing a spot in front of their own home.

I can’t wait for that day, I think it only makes sense. I switched to an SUV recently and I’m never going back to another type of vehicle. I’d rather go back to using public transit.

It was a joke Edwina, lighten up...

What’s the matter, has that elderly negress you’ve been spying on starting closing her bedroom curtains at night?

I love it. It makes you go into survival mode. You start making soups and stews and pot-pies...homemade breads and biscuits and things that stretch what you have on hand. It makes us be creative. It doesn't get any better. =)
