Interesting projects on improving electric vehicles

Unread post by asal »

This group has made a component that will let you plug in a different type of battery into a Nissan Leaf, so that the car accepts the battery and runs on it. The dream might be to plug in a Tesla battery one day.

This guy has a project of getting his older, worn out battery Nissan Leaf (I think it has 7/12 bars of battery left) and getting it to run on solar power.

He's a bit silly...

Better to build a solar home unit with 1-2k watts of capability, buy a used forklift battery, and charge off it with a pure sine wave inverter...

...it's unlikely the surface of a car could be plastered with enough pv cells to make a real difference, and even then... the sun's position changes constantly.

I run a fridge in my vehicle in the summer months that only draws 4-5 amps but powering it with a 200 watt panel can even sometimes prove challenging...

And those flat panels he uses regularly fail due to lack of heat dissipation... imagine 36-45c days on those materials against even hotter sheet metal...

He suggested pulling a trailer lined with solar panels  It's interesting.

5 × 200 watt solar blankets and some sort of voltage stepdown if the vehicles battery isn't 12v would work... not while driving though... and you'd need to be able to spread them around your vehicle, plus not get them stolen...

Every time I get in my silver Mercedes, I imagine myself to be secret agent James Bond 007 getting in, and driving, his silver Aston-Martin DB5 as he did in Goldfinger.
It is a gadget laden vehicle, complete with oil slicks, machine guns, revolving license plates and an ejector seat.
I try to drive it the way he did as well: with utmost skill and speed. And with danger at every turn.
It turns an ordinary, mundane drive into an exciting event.
It enhances my mystique. I transform into a dangerous professional terrorist agent and spy.
A little imagination works wonders for excitement.

Don't you know that I am the man of your dreams?
You can never have me; but you can certainly dream about having me.
Good night, Irene. I'll see you in my dreams.
Sweet dreams, Irene.

How about dashing? Dynamic? Mysterious? Living dangerously? With an aura of secrecy and danger surrounding me? A man of action and adventure?

James Bond was a hardly a man of mystery.
His hotel room was bugged and an assassin hiding in the closet way before he checked-in at the hotel using an alias.

Man of action you are not. Keep collecting those rent checks while sitting on your keister watching documentaries on YouTube.

I am more interested in the opinions of the fair sex in this regard, Mark.
What is 'keister'?
