Our snow turns to ice quicker than dryer places. It's snow + ice. Then slush, then iced slush. Then, we're okay for 10 months.
Same with northern michigan... except there's no rhyme, reason, or calculating one can do as to when it remelts or refreezes. You can have a blizzard for 3-10 days, and no melt....or a foot of snow that's gone by 2pm the next day.
Springtime in NM is generally all slush/slurry. If you don't have gum boots (rubber boots), you're not getting out in parking lot and walking into the shops.
