So...nobody knows what 'Doomslang' is, but Joe.

Joe, if ever there was a time when I needed to be 'Joesplained'...this is it.

Hmmmm.... I think this calls for another 'mimisplaining'

Mimi...I didn't make up the term. I just thought it was an interesting article by its author and it appeared in ESQUIRE Magazine. Have you heard of that publicaiton before?

Here's what the article says:
never thought the end of the world would sound so casual.

“How are you? Aside from the world burning and all.” This has become my go-to pleasantry—the default, dystopia-flavored greeting I use on Zoom calls, emails, and catchup texts with old friends. It isn’t just me: Ever since the Trump presidency, End Times vernacular seems to have trickled its way from fringe conspiracy forums into jocular chitchat among well-cushioned urbanites. In 2024, conjuring catastrophe in quotidian conversation is practically good manners. Openers like “Did you have a nice weekend?” are followed by the obligatory “I mean, other than the slow creeping demise of the planet.” Social media is awash with doom-themed memes (the “This is fine” dog engulfed in flames; a screen grab of Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation saying, “Everything hurts and I’m dying”; a pleasant woodland background overlaid with “I’m thinking of joining the cicadas this summer and just screaming for six weeks straight”), emoji combinations (🧟‍♀️🦠💀🌎🔥⏳🥲), and colloquialisms (“dumpster fire,” “hellscape,” “hate it here lol”). It all seems to suggest that The End will arrive any day now… and yet, everyone is being weirdly chill about it.

I’ve been calling it “doomslang—this use of informal jargon invoking the apocalypse. I started to look into it more closely while writing a new book, The Age of Magical Overthinking, which explores cognitive biases in the Information Age. One of the chapters addresses declinism, the widespread (and often distorted) perception that society is getting progressively worse in every way and there’s no going back. I was interested in the role of language in this fatalistic outlook. What does doomslang say about our collective mental state? What happens to us when we slang-ify mass misfortune, perhaps only as a macabre bit at first, but then with such cavalier frequency that it renders each of us the boy who cried apocalypse?
...is that satisfactory, mimi?

did you UNDERSTAND, mimi?

Or should I REPEAT Myself?

Like 2+ eggs per week would give bad cholesterol and cause strokes and heart attacks (70's through the 80's)?

Or that Astrazeneca was a "vaccine" and not responsible for blood clots/strokes?

How about the coming Ice Age in the 70's which turned into Global Warming in the 90's then changed to Climate Change these days?

DDT? Asbestos? Tobacco? Fluoride? GMO? etcetera?
Tobacco? Yes cig’s are safe DD. Especially for you.

No need to be snippy over a reasonable question.
As it turns out...you didn't make it up, but that guy made it up which is why I was unable to find a definition.

I, for one, like neologisms and welcome additions to the ever-expanding Engrish language. The flexibility and willingness to embrace growth make the language sinewy and muscular .......it's like hopping into bed with a practitioner of yoga......particularly when compared to the academic and sclerotic French tongue.

they've been peddling "doomsday" bullshit since i've been alive.... :(

1966 - oil will be depleted in 10 years.....
1967 - worldwide famine by 1975....
1968 - overpopulation is destroying us....
1969 - everyone will die from steam by 1989....
1970 - all natural resources depleted by 2000....
1970 - citizens will require gas masks by 1985....
1970 - nitrogen buildup will render land unusable....
1970 - killer bees....
1970 - ice age by 2000....
1970 - america will be rationing water by 1974 and rationing food by 1980....
1971 - new ice age by 2020 or 2030....
1972 - new ice age by 2070....
1972 - all oil depleted by 1990....
1974 - images from space show ice age approaching....
1974 - ICE AGE IMMINENT....

they've finally created a generation weak-minded enough to "get on board" with it.... the same group of stupid fucks who think you need to quarantine healthy ppl and guys become girls just because they "say so".... and now that they finally have you retarded fucks fully indoctrinated, they're gonna charge you money "just to be alive".... everything you do is gonna be on a "subscription" basis.... you motherfuckers are pathetic.... we were given dominion over all of this.... we were created to rule.... and you sold us out.... AGAIN.... :(
