Canadians - Protect your privacy like a mother bear protects her cubs

Anything they take from you you'll never get back regardless of what political party is in power. Do not ever use a government offered app of any kind.

TLDR: I suspect they do it arbitrarily, without court approval?

If you consider that to be a lengthy read you must have the attention span of a ferret on cocaine.

One of my guilty pleasures is "true crime television". The ability of the government to track every move has grown exponentially using a mix of mobile phone tracking, automobile toll patterns, electronic bank records, ubiquitous video cameras, facial analysis, and geographic analysis of signal patterns. The genii is out of the battle, London is worse than New York, but only marginally so. Given the interception capabilities that even relatively small police departments have at their disposal, if they really want to find an individual, it is only a matter of time before they do so.

I'm also hooked on 'true-crime' ...but on youtube channels. I don't know why I am...I hate violence...but there's something fascinating about watching how they piece things together and how they gather their information...not to mention a wicked sense of satisfaction when the perpetrators are cornered.

Mimi you might enjoy reading about "Stingray" use if you are not familiar with it.

stingray aka "cell site simulator" and "IMSI catchers".

Google will get you up and running just entering those terms.

"IMSI-catcher" article in Wikipedia will get you off and running. It is written from a UK perspective but the technology in the States is not uncommon.

It is a cell phone evesdropping device.

Ecce Mono,

Tango Yankee and gracias for a concise, clear, and well illustrated explanation.

Given the age of this technology you KNOW that gubmint in all its guises is not the only organization using this.

Used by US Federal Govt. since 1995

Baltimore City Police (not the sharpest knife in the drawer) began use in 2007.
