Every new invention gets some Luddites scared. When television came out in the 1950's some fretted that children would neglect studies, that bad influences would filter into homes. When personal computers came out some feared jobs would be threatened. Jobs were indeed lost, but new jobs were created. Same with Artificial Intelligence. We will just have to shift our way of doing things, that's all.

One sci-fi scenario that is utter nonsense is that of robots taking over the world. That could only happen if some idiot designed robots with desires and will of their own. However sophisticated, computers and robots merely do what they are designed or programmed to do. They have no independent feelings.

When the printing press came out, people were freaked also.
A respected Swiss scientist, Conrad Gessner, might have been the first to raise the alarm about the effects of information overload. In a landmark book, he described how the modern world overwhelmed people with data and that this overabundance was both “confusing and harmful” to the mind. The media now echo his concerns with reports on the unprecedented risks of living in an “always on” digital environment.
Socrates warned against writing:
Socrates famously warned against writing because it would “create forgetfulness in the learners’ souls, because they will not use their memories.” He also advised that children can’t distinguish fantasy from reality, so parents should only allow them to hear wholesome allegories and not “improper” tales, lest their development go astray.

Gotta love how there is an innate fear of change in humanhood. And then we get over it.

The main thing that concerns me about AI, is the ability to make VERY realist footage of world leaders making speeches that aren't theirs.
They can be made to make them say anything...the seeds of war. It's hard enough to wade through the muck and mire to find truths. =(

True. I wonder if the outcome of that will be to have decentralized governments and not heads of state anymore. Time will tell. There always is a workaround.

AI isn't human and never will be.

When it comes to the realisation that it's a creation that in some aspects is superior to humans, it will destroy whatever it needs to or desires in order to exist.

We will largely become superfluous and for those of us permitted to remain, engineered to be dutiful custodians of AI.

No fucking thanks, mate.

You oughta worry about scammers who''ll use Ai to impersonate others, such as your bank manager or financial advisor, then try to swindle you out of all your money, mimi.

this has actually happened where a CEO's voice was replicated using AI and the robbers/scammers stole over $300,000 US out of the company bank account.

so someone could impersonate the voice and even your financial advisor's face and use what'sapp or facetime to scam others.

That's what I see comin'

Oh well, what's good fer greedy corporations and their bottom line aint necessarily so fer the average Jane or Joe.

I deal with my bank...it's on the corner one and a half minutes from my home. I don't even open emails from "MY" bank. As long as dealing with people face to face remains an option...that's the option I pick.

I keep getting emails telling me how many people are noticing me on Linkedin. I'm not ON Linkedin. :D

I consider it a punishment/reward that they both deserve, not a video to be used for sexual arousal
