3 Billion ($3,000,000,000.00)

Unread post by Pantalon de Singe »

Yesterday Trudeau forked over to the Ukraine an ADDITIONAL 3 billion dollars of 'your tax obligation' (borrowed money plus interest plus handling etc etc). Just letting you know in case you were bummed about your grocery bill.

let this bee a lesson to the putins and trumps of the world. you may think you are winning but your days of ruling by ressentiment and fear are nearing the end.
Trump’s appeal isn’t premised on delivering concrete policy goals, nor even “owning the libs” with high-profile stunts. It is about assuaging the sense of fear and resentment at their America being replaced: about achieving victories that assuage the sense of psychological assault created by things like mass immigration, a Black president, shifting gender roles, and a beloved beer brand cutting an ad with a trans influencer. Donald Trump, as a figure, represents the America they know and love. His victories are their victories, his defeats their defeats.

just so you know ukraine needs our dough to buy ammo.
The conflict in Ukraine demonstrates the differences between how democracies and autocracies fight their wars. Even a transitional democracy such as Ukraine must heed political and institutional norms and processes, public opinion, and international humanitarian law. An autocracy such as Putin’s Russia need not bother with such concerns.

I've never given a shit where my income tax dollars are spent.
My tax rate will not increase because of this Ukraine assistance,
and my quality of life will not decrease because of it.
My groceries are more expensive lately because of food retailer's gouging policies,
not because of government spending.

New Data on Continued Record Profits in Canadian Food Retail.

Economy-wide inflation in Canada slowed down notably in 2023. The unique factors that drove the initial surge in inflation after the COVID pandemic (including shortages of key commodities, disrupted supply chains, and a global oil price shock) have mostly abated.

Food price inflation was a particular challenge for Canadians struggling to cover their basic necessities. Food inflation has also slowed, but remains higher than overall inflation. Food prices increased 5.6% in the 12 months ending in October (most recent data), compared to general inflation of 3.1%. Public anger at the major supermarket chains which dominate Canada’s food retail sector (the three largest firms control almost two-thirds of all grocery sales) remains strong.

Supermarket executives claim they have not profited from food price inflation, but have merely passed on to consumers the higher costs they pay for their own inputs and products. Economic evidence refutes this claim. The latest industry-wide financial data on food retail (produced by Statistics Canada for the third quarter of 2023) shows that food retail profits have more than doubled since pre-pandemic norms, and profits continue to grow.

Hey, maybe Tucker will do another interview, incidentally, no meaning to it at all, with Putin. That'll be a surprise, and so organic.

It's not Trudeau's money. He's a hired steward of it.

New York medical school eliminates tuition after $1bn gift

Feb. 26, 2024
A New York City medical school will offer students free tuition following a $1bn donation from the 93-year-old widow of a major Wall Street investor.

The gift to Albert Einstein College of Medicine came from Dr Ruth Gottesman, a former professor at the Bronx school.

It is one of the largest ever donations made to a US school and is the largest ever made to a medical school.

The Bronx, New York City's poorest borough, is ranked as the unhealthiest of New York's 62 counties.

In a statement, university dean Dr Yaron Yomer said that the "transformational" gift "radically revolutionises our ability to continue attracting students who are committed to our mission, not just those who can afford it".

Tuition at the school is nearly $59,000 each year, leaving students with substantial debt.

The statement from Einstein noted students in their final year will be reimbursed for their spring 2024 tuition, and from August, all students, including those who are currently enrolled, will receive free tuition....

They'll most likely only five free tuition to a small number of individuals and pocket the rest.
